Preparation
Provide protection for foliage, vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Test all surfaces that might be exposed to the cleaner for possible adverse reactions. Protect all surfaces and surrounding areas from possible damage which might occur from spillage or spray during usage. All projects should start with a test appli- cation to determine the suitability of the cleaner, acceptable application method and possible dilution ratio. Unlike almost other masonry cleaning applications where the soiling is only on the surface, this product is designed to react with materials both on the surface and below the surface. The cleaner needs to penetrate into the stone so you should NOT pre-wet the surface prior to the application of the stain remover. Test areas involving the worst condition should be done prior to the start of general cleaning. The color change occurs gradually and the full extent of the reaction may not be apparent for a few hours. The test area should be left to dry for at least 24 hours to allow for possible negative reactions to occur that might require the alteration of the cleaning method.
Dilution and Coverage
Dilution: 0 to 3 parts water to 1 part product — test application recommended Coverage: Dependent upon substrate and other conditions.
Application
Apply SB 2305 by masonry acid brushes or low-pressure spray. Spray application at pressures greater than 40 psi should be avoided. Since the goal is to have the product soak into the porous stone, the product is applied heavier than most other cleaners. Especially when applied by brushing, it may take several more brushfuls to cover an area. Apply SB 2305 only to dry masonry to assure absorption. Depending on the results of the project’s pretesting trials, it may be necessary to apply more than one coat of SB 2305. In most cases this can be done within 20 or 30 minutes if the masonry has dried enough to accept another coat. It normally is not necessary to rinse in between coats. A final rinse to remove excess product and dissolved contaminants should be done.
SB 2305 Oxidation Stain Remover is for use by professional contractors only. Do not use this product on any polished masonry surface. This cleaner contains ingredients that might remove color from colored mortars. A thorough rinsing is required. In any type of water repellent or protective treatment is going to be applied after the use of SB 2305, allow about a week or a few rain events to go by before application of the treatment. Contact with metal may result in discoloration.
